Children's flu is caused by a virus, but it generally starts more suddenly and severely than a cold. While the symptoms of a cold and a flu are similar, a child with the flu usually has a high fever and feels very uncomfortable. The flu can last a week or even longer.

Symptoms of the flu may include:

  • Sudden onset of fever (usually above 101°F)
  • Body ache
  • Headache
  • Running nose
  • Fatigue
  • Dry cough

If your child suffers from a flu, you may let your child take Children’s Coltalin or Children’s Coltalin Cold & Flu. Besides, you may also:

  • give your child more bed rest
  • let your child drink more water or fruit juice
  • give easy-to-digest meals to your child
  • use a cool mist vaporizer in your child’s bedroom
  • use salt water nose drops or a humidifier as these can relieve your child’s nose and throat discomfort

If your child's symptoms persist, having a fever, or having a cough that does not go away, please call a doctor immediately.

Flu Prevention

Since the flu is a virus that can be transmitted from person to person, it is important to form a good hygiene habit to prevent the spread of the flu viruses. If your child suffers from a flu, you need to ensure that the flu viruses do not spread to other family members:

  • Avoid kissing the infected child on or around the mouth
  • Teach your child to use and dispose of tissues properly
  • Wash your hands before and after caring for your child
  • Use hot, soapy water to wash your child’s clothes and toys
  • Adults and the infected child must not share drinking glasses
